With the changes coming with new technology, the best thing we can do is be mindful our own policies for how we provide information. That being said, there are certain information that must be readily available for certain parties. We should usually be screening who requests it

One of the  best things we can do to ensure that our students, past, present, and future, have the proper channels to access their information as well as have protected. Past student information has bit more leniency in some cases due to the nature of the situation. By keeping best practice policies in tact we can adequately ensure that we are providing and protecting the correct information.

This section focused heavily on explaining what information can and cannot be released how we can identify basic modifiers that will allow release of information that is considered "directory" that being said, it is always best to make sure that the information you are providing is being provided to the correct party. Our job is to make sure any information outside of campus officials is provided with all due process, including the written consent.

FERPA allows us to actively protect our students' personal and academic information while also ensuring that anyone who goes against this compliance is held accountable. Compliance is fairly simple, however compliance is subject to interpretation when it comes to who is considered school personnel with interest in the well being and education of the student. Still we should be able to act appropriately within the confines and refresh ourselves as needed to ensure we maintain the compliance.
