Safety is talked about on a daily basis.  We have a ladder safety quiz for the students already in place, but I will implement a general safety quiz in the near future.  The documentation is important, that was an eye opener for me.

We also have the student take OSHA 10 later in the program, but my class is before they are able to take OSHA.  So the need for documentation is essential.

We implemented a rubric grading system for labs about 5 years ago.  Students seem less anxious about the labs because it is clearly laid out and they understand was is expected.

Although we are sometimes restricted to what style we can implement, nothing has the impact in the lab like a student actually getting hands-on individual labwork.

In my opinion, it is essential to use all three domains of Bloom's taxonomy when designing lab projects.  I would ensure that the learning objectives are presented and understood before starting a project and that the grading rubric is explained.  This let's the student understand what is expected and that the grading will be objective.
