In the Workload Management Strategies (WLMS) for teaching online course, module four titled, WLMS for Course Revisions, I learned that professional development for the instructor is important so that the instructor can keep abreast of the latest learning practices that are being used. The modifications performed to enhance a course needs to be documented and a revision history must be maintained. Lastly, the use of formative assessments throughout the course and summative assessments at the end of the course are important so that course revisions are made in a timely manner

In the Workload Management Strategies (WLMS) for teaching online course, module three titled, WLMS for Communicating and Collaborating, I learned that hearing and seeing an online instructor is an important way to personalize the online educational experience. Communication for students is critical to create an enriched learning community. The course syllabus needs policies and procedures which will help to ensure a smooth-running course. The instructor needs to model good communication skills and lead by example. Timely feedback for the student will enhance a student’s educational experience which will result in better learning outcomes. Lastly, group projects should have both a… >>>

In the Workload Management Strategies (WLMS) for teaching an online course, module two titled, WLMS for teaching online, I learned the various characteristics that an effective online instructor should have. I have also been exposed to the challenges to teaching an online course, from both the instructor and student perspective. One factor I didn’t consider is that both the teacher and the student will have less social time with their peers. This may be beneficial in some ways, however, not all the time. I believe both the instructor and student need to actively become more social outside of the virtual… >>>

I have used Kahoot before and the students loved it!

In the Workload Management Strategies (WLMS) to Develop the Learning Environment course, module one titled, Principles for Good Practice, I learned the various workload management strategies that could assist an online instructor. Also, I learned that student engagement and interactive learning is as important in an online course as it is in a face-to-face course. Time management is a critical component when working in an online environment as well as information overload. The instructor has to have procedures in place to ensure that time management and information overload issues do not arise when teaching an online course. Using peers who… >>>

I love Google Earth so I can see how the instructor created a great learning environment!

In the Preparing Students to Become Good Online Learners course, module four, Successful Online Learning Techniques, I learned how critical planning and goal setting can be. People must identify their goals and know the steps needed to achieve his/her goals. Also, an instructor needs to communicate how the course relates to a student’s goals. The more buy in from the student, the more the student will be an active member of the course and become a person who enjoys participating in the learning community. Time management is another important aspect when someone is taking an online course. Instructors need to… >>>

In the Preparing Students to Become Good Online Learners course, module three, Technical Skills I learned that I must identify the necessary technology skill of the students. I, as the instructor, must provide how to guides as well as helpful hints for students lacking in technical skills. The list of questions to ask students about their technical skills are a good resource to use when creating a class syllabus or these questions could become part of the student survey at the beginning of the course when the instructor is gathering information about the students. When students are lacking in technical… >>>

In the Preparing Students to Become Good Online Learners course, module two, Non-Technical Skills I learned that online instructors have to teach their students about being a good online citizen. Also, similar to traditional classrooms, students need to be instructed on the importance of becoming a good reader and writer. Good reading and writing skills are needed for all forms of education. Student participation, the feeling of being part of a community and effective communication are characteristics required for student success.

In the Preparing Students to Become Good Online Learners course, module one, Online Persona, I learned the importance of having the instructor and students complete a self-analysis as related to technology and classroom skills to help everyone be honest about one’s strength and weakness of various areas. Also, that motivation plays a critical role in a student’s success in an online course. Time management is another critical area that must be addressed in order to be successful in an online course.
