I found the steps on how to create a PLDP very useful.

I learned about transferring of credits, licensing and accreditation , and how important it is to find out what is in place at the institution where I work.

I learned that student services offered by the institution can be just as important as the training in the student's success.

I learned to make sure the prospective student meets the admissions requirements and prepare a checklist for the admissions interview.  I also learned once the enrollment agreement is fully executed you will need to provide the student with a copy of the fully executed enrollment agreement .  Prior to the student's enrollment , it is required to provide the student with access to the institute's catalog.

I learned where to find the rules and regulations and that keeping a resource book with the rules & regulations as well as our institution's policy and procedures on hand is very important and useful.

I learned how other laws can override FERPA  with regard to students' information and educational records.

I learned what kind of information regarding the student  can be released and when written consent from the student is required.  I also learned if unsure whether I can release the information it's best practice to get written consent from the student.

Biggest take away is how important my role is in making sure  FERPA law is not violated, and what is considered an "Educational Record" and what is not.
