In the Baking & Pastry course I teach, I think one way to encourage students to be lifelong learners is to observe different preparation and baking techniques and question or observe how they apply to more than one particular item or baked good. The principles of baking are not overly complex but they apply to so many different items, and I always encourage students to think about where they might have used a particular technique and observe how it can be used in many applications.
