Activity

Some reason I never thought of it, 'begin with the end'. It makes sense as to what outcomes you want the students to learn or gain when developing a lesson plan.

Safety and security of students and the class are paramount. The regular practice of safety allows for a ideal learning environment.

As a instructor in Prison, I deal with a multitude of students that have self-esteem issues, mental disorders, has experienced trauma, or yet been the cause of some sort of trauma. They often have a bad history with schools, educators, authority and therefore fickle about attending classes. The content in this module is a daily effort for me.  To build trust, healthy professional relationships, create a safe educational setting, etc.  I will explore the PBIS website more.

It is nice to know that my school facility already has much of this in place for me and other new teachers that come along. I feel comfortable to speak with a colleague or principles about my needs. We have monthly staff meetings and PLCs with others in my field monthly.

As a CTE instructor in a prison setting; boundaries, rules, professionalism, etc. are already set are emphasized by me on a regular basis.  While I live principles on a daily basis, I have more of a challenge to teach these things and why they are important to my students.

CTE has had a long history, but slow moving to get to where it is today. Despite its obvious positive points and advantages it could provide to the populace, It took two world wars to gain enough attention and support from federal leaders to adopt.  There are many stories out there how CTE has proven itself over many times.
