I have learned that when teaching an online course it is important to welcome your class with an online video and communicate quickly and do frequent individualized video meets to help maintain social presence.

Covid 19 has changed the way students learn especially online. It used to be that online learning was for students 25+ and those that wanted to advance their career where post pandemic the age of online learner is young, unemployed, or part time. Their intent is to begin not advance.

Responding quickly and timely to students questions fosters trust and relationship based communication which in turn leads to retention.
