Spending a little time between appraisal timelines set by the company will help employees succeed in their goals.

Comment on Christy Foster Bollman's post: Same. I really like the 360 approach.

I think there were some great ideas on how to rebuild a relationship.

A couple of the ideas that I would like to try included a Suggestion Box to get feedback from the students on what they like, don't like and ideas they have for our campus activities.  I also think a Dean's newsletter would be a good idea to show them what we are doing and what is coming up to include those important deadlines, etc.  I would also like to look into creating a Dean's List, which a student had asked me about before.

The difference between the Survey Aproach and the Probiing approach is the first changes the aspect by asking a new question, while the second asks a question about the previoius answer.  The one thing that I would like to add is the web-based intervention system for students to use who may be uncomfortable reaching out for help in person.

Academic Erosion is an internal driver of student's wanting to leave an educational environment.  I used to think of this as big fish in a little pond being moved to a big pond and not being able to survive.  Now I view this as an opportunity to help the student overcome the insecurity they are feeling and aid them in adjusting to the enviornment and providing supports that will help them thrive through the difficulty.

I learned that retention is a complex issue for a campus and requires consistency from every department in how students reflect their experience with an institution.  I learned that gimmicks and activities don't matter if students do not truly feel that we are here to help and support them.

I learned some techniques to be a little more engaging and personal with my instructors.  I need to spend more time getting to  know them and what their goals are and provide individual opportunities for communication and sharing ideas.  I also really liked the idea of starting off team meetings with a simple question to create a safe space before launching into work topics.
