Good information here.  I have found this to cause me to examine the balance of my delivery between "student centered" and Instructor directed" approaches.  This tends to vary from cohort to cohort and needs to be higher on my list of evaluating the best approach for a given group or individual.

Always a challenge for me to keep my mouth shut and listen.  I too often have cut a student short on a shared thought.  I have improved a great deal through the years, and find it very helpful to be reminded of proper listening skills from time to time.

I have found situational issues with adult learners to often be the reason behind low academic performance.  In tandem it creates a retention challenge.  Developing a good rapport with students is helpful in these situations.  The more comfortable they are approaching me the more I can try to help.

Comment on Shane Apperley's post: Creating  variety I often find challenging.  I find this helpful in bringing the need to the forefront and will begin working on some methods of "mixing it up" a little from day to day.

A good review of my responsibilities at the beginning of a new class.  Making a clear policy for late and missing assignments is a great idea.  Having students each read sections of and ask questions on the syllabus has been effective with some cohorts.
