I understand better why some people play multi-player games but I'm not sure how to apply this to the classroom setting.

 

I try to use gaming often but find that using the same type over and over probably is boring for the students.  I'd like to have more options available and be creative in their use.  I understand better that using a simulation or game reinforces the learning, does not replace the learning.

 

I learned that it is important to take time to get know your students and have them know and trust you as the instructor.  As a first time on line instructor I am realizing how much we take fro granted in a face-to-face situation.  It is much easier to get to know your students!

 

I feel like I need to be more prepared with written lesson plans for an on line course than with an inseat course.  I'be been teaching the same classes for over 10 years and can teach in a room of students with little preperation.  But on line, I feel like every minute needs to be planned in advance and accounted for.  It forces me to be more creative in keeping the student's attention.  And I can always bring those ideas into the inseat classroom as well.

 

While I think that i do a pretty good job of modeling, mentoring and monitoring there is always room for improvement.  I think I do need to improve in the area of monitoring and holding the students accountable.  This, of the three, is the most difficult for me.  One good idea I got from this course was to give each new student a card for them to write down why they want to succeed, who are they changing their lives for, what are they working towards, and have them refer to that when times get tough and they want to… >>>
