I learned that it is not only important to motivate your students, but to understand their motivation and tailor their learning experience.  

Your enthusiasm as an instructor lays the foundation for the class.  Also learned techniques for challenges with participation.  

Positive feedback and reinforcement are crucial to the success of adult learners. 

It is important to understand your students’ motivations. 

Adults have an attention span of 15-18 minutes. Mini lectures are most useful to help retain information. 

Setting expectations on the first day is important.

I learned that a detailed syllabus is extremely important to the students.  Additionally, having students sign that they have reviewed the syllabus helps to hold them accountable. 

I learned that as an instructor, you should not assume that you are the smartest person in the class.
