There are two types of standards, content and performance, just like their are two types of assessments, formative and summative.

A well-developed lesson plan is like a well-developed scientific protocol complete with rationale, steps and time increments as well as its own assessment.

You need to know what your students do or do not already know. The lessons should accomodate students with different background knowledge levels and be appropriate to your objectives and goals. 

Avoid conflict with simple reporting.

Redirection and back up plans for when things go awry are good tools.

10-20-30 and 3-5 are easily remembered slide design rules.

Your assessment of yourself is as important as your assessment of your students.
