About me

I am a Department Chair for Engineering Technology program. I have 10 years of teaching experience in mechanical and freshman engineering. I taught at undergraduate and graduate level. I also served as a graduate program head to develop and oversee accelerated MS program. My research interests include thermoelectrics, photocatalysis, gas sensors, super capacitors, and wind turbine blade design.

Activity

I learned that it is important to define and list the week activities as clearly as possible. Expanding on the details of what content is covered, how it is covered and what course outcomes do each of these activities map to, give a great connection, clarity and help students plan accordingly.

I learned historical evolution to lead to online education, where formerly it was called correspondence. How it is beneficial and how many schools are incorporating this idea.

In this module I've learnt what is good communication and how much communication is required. Too frequent replies to discussion posts is not always helpful. I've learnt how to be in the background to monitor and recognize students who participate in the discussions and reply to other student posts as well.

This module helped me understand the different communication requirements of different generations such as Genz, Gen Y, Baby boomers etc.

I give feedback to students who are not communicating or barely communicating to satisfy the bare minimum. Sometimes students are shy or sometimes students want to get by the course. I reach out to them to encourage them to improve their communication and discussions.

It is important to assess what tools students have access to and use a tool/platform that is more appropriate and equitable for student participation.
