I have learned that Social Engagement and Motivational Engagement can reduce procrastination and allow students to feel confident in their ability to progress successfully in school. Setting the standard for all-around communication between student to student, instructor to student, and staff/faculty to student. Once students develop trust in you, the lines of communication are open to providing efficient and effective feedback which helps students have a clear understanding of the class and their progress.

Email messaging is ranked highest for effective communication when handling private responses such as delinquent online behavior and giving confidential advice to students with personal problems. I plan to enforce classroom policies to keep students on track with positive reminders for those who may be disruptive or apply intimidation to the discussions.

Students have many learning styles and may possess multiple styles so it is important to first identify three important styles: Avoidant, Competitive, and Dependent. Understanding these styles I will be able to create strategies for asynchronous discussions and proper feedback as well and one on one synchronous discussions to allow students to feel confident and motivated.

Develop classroom strategies to influence, persuade, inspire students by giving verbal cues, effective listening, and encourage creativity. Students engage better when they feel they have a sense of support from their instructors by maintaining a consistent presence in participating with feedback in a timely manner.

Instructors should be prepared to initiate, participate, and facilitate in all class discussions, along with the ability to share wisdom, resources, and website material to engage with the class. This will ensure adequate communication and confidence in student/teacher interaction. Understanding the course contents and how to effectively and efficiently respond to student questions and concerns is key factors to online learning.
