Activity

To implement active learning strategies in physics, I think, small group discussions, games, case studies, simulations, videos, lab equipments, among a few more might come very handy. Can't wait to see some examples of a class setting in the following modules.

The strategies of dealing with Angry Students are godsend!

The first day, the Syllabus day, is a very important day to establish a good, healthy, strong bond (onset of a journey) with the students. Also, I like the idea of having ice-breaker exercies. I am so glad to know about how students own the expectations part of the course and how we help them visualize them. Being firm is important too!

Its, again, interesting how the author of this course was able to categorize the roles a teacher plays in a class - instructor, social director, program manager and IT asst. I feet like I have always filled one or the other shoe in a class but it never occured to me to "name" these roles.

Also interesting how important a syllabus becomes in communicating course expectations, esp when learning transitions online.

Its was interesting to see how the instructor/author of this course, EL104, was able to make clearcut distinctions between Synch. and Asynch. learning; basically able to separate one from the other. Also, a course can include both these methods - online lectures which are recorded and available for students to watch (repeatedly/later).

The different teaching styles mentioned here are very interesting. As a teacher, we often change roles within a day from one form (say, delegator when assigning a homework/project) to another (expert or demonstrators when solving a problem/example on the board) very frequently.
