Ongoing communication is essential for students with PTSD and/or TBI. There can be things going on in their lives outside of the classroom that have a large impact on their behavior or engagement so make sure to keep communication going throughout the duration of the course.

A key point to remember is that you cannot compromise the content of your course in making any accommodations.

I always thought that TBI was more severe sounding than it is. Something as small as being hit in the head can cause it.

I didn't realize that PTSD came into so many forms and was so common. I knew it was major in military individuals, but I didn't realize it has such a high significance in general population as well.

I learned in this course that when teaching young adult/adult learners it can be important and helpful to have the lesson reflect real life experiences not just the book.

In this course I learned how people have different ways of learning and we should try to deliver different styles of teaching to help them become engaged in what we're trying to teach.

Getting to know who your students are is helpful in knowing the best way to help your students and what to expect from certain students.

I learned in this course that being prepared and having materials ready to go is going to take you a long way in the classroom and with students.

This module has shown me that being professional is more than just putting on a uniform and conducting a lab or teaching a lesson.  It is the preparation before and conducting oneself after.
