About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi John, You can give an introduction of yourself first and then have each student introduce themselves. Also, you can have students pair up and find out two to three interesting things about their partner and have each partner introduce each other. Some instructors also enjoy telling jokes. After doing the icebreaker let students know you are going to now go over the syllabus. Patricia

Hi Erika, I understand your response fully. I teach a job search course as well, and students love seeing examples of portfolios, resumes, reference sheets, etc. I can automatically see the stress level reduce by sharing these various examples with my students. I always have several students to tell me thanks for sharing. Patricia
