About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Ed, Students will quickly say that you do not know what you are talking about, therefore, we must always be clear and complete. There are some students that are waiting on you to mess up. Patricia
Hi Matthew, You are on point! Our students have a lot of personal problems. We need to decide where the anger is coming from and move forward from that point. Listening is key. Sometimes the anger is resolved just from listening. Patricia
Hi Robert, What a response! I have found that whenever a question is supported as to what is expected in the workplace, the response tend to make more sense to the student. They understand the reason as to while the rule, policy,or procedure has been implemented. Patricia
Hi Robert, Do not tolerate the continued disruptions. These students need to be dealt with quickly and swiftly. Get the support from your DOE and have these disruptive students removed from your class. The disruptions are not fair to others who truly want to learn. Patricia
Hi Warren, It is important for students to know that you are experienced in the field. Students tend to feel more at ease when they know that you have done what you are teaching. You share very valuable information with your students to motivate them. We as educators have to continue to be role models for our students. Patricia
Hi Michael, Normally, the student's anger has nothing to do with anything that happened in class. Generally, it is something personal that has caused the student to behave as such. We have to continue to teach students, it is a time and place for everything, and this type of behavior will not be acceptable on the job. Patricia
Hi Matthew, Guest speakers certainly add flavor to those discouraged students as well as students that are motivated. Graduate guest speakers are definitely a plus because these speakers can speak about their experience while at the institution. I like the idea of a one-on-one meeting, if there is a need and agreed upon by the guest speaker. I am sure the meeting will prove to be very helpful. Patricia
Hi Melanie, Students need to have a clear picture as to what is expected of them. Students appreciate being shown examples. Patricia
Hi Erika, Students have a fond interest in the subject whenever they learn how to apply what is being taught in the classroom to the workplace. Students get excited hearing about their new career. Patricia
Hi Elias, I am all for showing examples of work. You still have many students that do a superior job and add their own touch after being shown examples. Patricia
