About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Tammy, I have tried this icebreaker as well, and students enjoy it. I have had a few students to really become good friends by doing this icebreaker. They found out they had a lot in common. Patricia
Hi Stevie, Litening is key when dealing with angry students. Your thought process as to how to deal with angry students is on point. Patricia
Hi Amy, We all think differently. Students can really get great ideas by being shown examples, and they can really use their imagination and creativity and do an outstanding job. Patricia
Hi Robert, The perfect mesh is to be liked and well respected. However, we are not teaching to be liked, but we would like to be liked. Respect is earned, and if we as educators want respect, we must give respect. Patricai
Hi Arturo, It is given that instructors should respect students just as students should respect instructors. Students deserve respect. Patricia
Hi Amy, I've done an icebreaker that allowed each student had to tell something unique about themselves. Students really do enjoy this icebreaker. The icebreaker is a super conversation piece. Patricia
Hi Kimberly, It would also be great to have a GRADUATE guest speaker present. Students love to hear graduates testatmonies; they become really excited about their field of study. Patricia
Hi Shereene, You're right! The problem resolved itself. That's what you get for cheating; great lesson learned about keeping your eyes on your own paper. Patricia
Hi Caroline, Students need to know that they are being watched while testing. Sometimes just by the students knowing that they are being watched, this practice minimizes cheating. Patricia
Hi Randy, Students tend to be more motivated whenever they understand why they need to learn a particular concept. Students really become excited when guest speakers validate what they have been told by the instructor. Patricia
