About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Creighton, The speil you give your students is the truth. They really are only cheating and hurting themselves. Patricia
Hi Danielle, In what ways do you maintain a professional image? Patricia
Hi Lisa, We do need to be supportive of our students, but we also need to hold them accountable. Teaching them for every choice there is a consequence.
Hi Kristin, Absolutely!!! I love your philosophy! You get from students what you expect!! Patricia
Hi Susan, Rubrics are awesome. Students have a good idea of their grade before the grade is issued by the instructor. There are not many surprises with a rubric. Patricia
Hi Hilda, During an episode such as this the instructor should use a very calming demeanor. Listening also plays a key factor. Patricia
Hi Kristin, Clarity is key for reducing student complaints. The smallest grey area will cause the students to complain. Patricia
Hi Tonya, I have an awesome example of a portfolio that I share with my students in Professional Development. It makes things a lot clearer for the students. They really get excited and motivated from seeing this example. Patricia
Hi Scott, Students do enjoy guest speakers. I use my director and placement coordinators as guest speakers all the time in Career Development. Patricia
Hi Cheryl, They are the best! These students can speak from first-hand experience. They are excellent motivators to others. Patricia
