About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Art, With you being as detailed as you are, your students cannot play the card "I didn't know." It appears you are very thorough with making things clear. Patricia
Hi Franklin, Students form bonds from this type of activity. It is important for students to know the purpose of the course. Patricia
Hi Faye, Great information to share with students as to why ENG101. I will put this response in a nice PowerPoint presentation and share it with the students on Day 1 before ever going over the syllabus. Students need to understand the why. Be proactive, don't give the students the opportunity to ask why, you beat them to the punch so to speak. Patricia
Hi Timothy, You are no doubt qualified, otherwise you would not have been offered the position. Prepare and you will be a winner! Patricia
Hi Robert, I concur! Students should try to shine favorably upon their instructors and other school employees because we as instructors recommend them for employment. At my institution the majority of employees on staff graduated from the institution. I even have a few faculty members that graduated from the institution. They entered the institution with a 4 year degree and did extremely well as a student and were hired. Patricia
Hi Ernest, I take the same approach, and yes grades have proven to be much better whenever I take the time to demonstrate exactly what I am looking for. You are right, sad but true, most of our students simply do not or will not read. Patricia
Hi Ernest, Wow, what great information to share with students so that they quickly see how beneficial this course is to them both personally and professionally. Patricia
Hi Robert, Our students truly have a lot going on outside of school, and time management is key for them. We have a 4-hour seminar at my institution that all new students must take, and in that seminar there is a large component that teaches students how to manage their time. The seminar has proven to be very helpful for students. Patricia
Hi Linda, I like the policy your institution has a place about socializing with students. Instructors need to understand that they are professionals, and they need to lead by example. Instructors should not lower their standards to a student's level. Patricia
Hi Tammara, Whenever students understand that they can benefit from the course either personally and/or professionally they generate a sense of excitement. Patricia
