About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Rita, Calmness is everything when you are dealing with an angry student. If you get loud, the angry student is only going to get louder. Never let your students anger/bad attitude cause you to lose your cool. Keep your composure at all times as hard as this may be in some instances. Patricia

Hi Sally, I would say go with Ms. Nickle; this acts as a sense of respect for you. However, I do know of some institutions culture being different by allowing instructors to let students call them by their first name. I always introduce myself as Mrs. Scales. Patricia

Hi Mike, An instructor's reputation says it all, either good or bad. Students will pass judgement on you. Hopefully, your reputation is good, and students simply want to flock to your class because you are knowledgeable, professional, prepared, organized, caring and fair. Patricia
