About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Dennis, You will grow in this area. You have to continue to work hard on making the transition from being a student to now an employee. You can really sympathize and empathize with the students because you have been there and done that. Patricia Scales
Hi RONNIE, Excellent approach. Listening is definitely key! Patricia Scales
Hi Tracy, A smaller setting is definitely better for most quiet students. They tend to open up more around less people. Patricia Scales
Hi Dennis, You are definitely thinking correctly. Instructors should have a good rapport with their students so that their students feel very comfortable talking to them. Patricia Scales
Hi Melissa, When you interact with students they tend to approach you more with questions because they feel comfortable with you. Patricia Scales
Hi Cassie, Students get it. They know when the talk is geared toward them. Sometimes I have found that a private one-on-one conversation is more effective than addressing the entire group. Patricia Scales
Hi Bruce, I understand. It is amazing that there are those students that can go through the motions and get the correct answers, but they do not know how to apply what they have learned. Patricia Scales
Hi Terry, I too follow the same practice. Every assignment I assign, complex or simple, I follow up with the assignment. Patricia Scales
Hi Lasharon, I concur! We should not require students to do an assignment if we are not going to follow up. Patricia Scales
Hi Rebecca, Great way to keep students focused. Students like and need variety. Patricia Scales
