About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Rachel, As long as the name is removed and you have gotten special permission from the student, you should be fine. What you can do is simply create an example using a student's example as a guide. Present the example you created which is identical to the student's. Patricia Scales
Hi Carmen, Absolutely! Seeing is believing! The mindset is that if they did it, I can do it! Patricia Scales
Hi Liah, I typically like to express with my students how the course is going to help them in their career to gain buy in from the students. Patricia Scales
Hi WILLIAM, Try to have a class discussion, and you guide the disscussion so that things do not get out of hand. Patricia Scales
Hi Monroe, Go for it! Our students need to know how to become better thinkers by thinking outside of the box. Try it, sometimes students amaze you with what they can do. Patricia Scales
Hi Holly, Absolutely! Boundaries must be established and followed. Patricia Scales
Hi Vanessa, Great practices to minimize cheating. These measures are not extreme, you are just being cautious. Patricia Scales
Hi Lori, I know, it is never good to make others suffer because of what another has done. From time to time we get this type of student. I've had to remove the sleepy student from class one day to make a point. After removing the student, she came in bright eyed and bushy tail. Patricia Scales
Hi Lukas, Great on the 60%! These students can be a handful. We just have to continue to talk to them so that they can fully understand they really need to complete their education for themselves. It is no magic wand for these type of students. Patricia Scales
Hi Dawn, Great information to share with the student. I applaud you that you treat her like everyone else in spite of her insecurities. Treating everyone the same is always the best thing to do. Patricia Scales
