About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi John, Textbooks are thought to be borain to students, and a lot of students look at textbooks as intimidating. When we can make complicated material simple and applicable to the real world students will retain it more. Patricia Scales
Hi Wilmer, Very practical, this will certainly help them once they get on the job. Patricia Scales
Hi Tracy, Preparation is key! Always try out what the students will be doing involving hands on. Patricia Scales
Hi Lukas, I agree! Any homework assignment can be cheated on, and it hard to prove it, but time will tell as mentioned via tests/quizzes. Patricia Scales
Hi Harry, That's right! All students matter, and we should make them feel as such. Patricia Scales
Hi William, Nicely stated! Rapport building is very important at the collegian level. Patricia Scales
Hi Bill, In an online evironment it is different interacting with students because you do not get that important face-to-face interaction. Online instructors try to build rapport with students via email, by stating their name as the greeting line before actually composing the email. Send a welcome note personally to each student, and they try to personalize emails when possible instead of sending out a blanket email. Patricia Scales
HI Dawn, I agree! Make it a point to build a relationship with ALL students so that no one feels left out. Patricia Scales
Hi Carmen, I concur! Guest speakers are proof that it can be done! Patricia Scales
Hi Lisa, Super way to handle this type of student. You handle it with great professionalism and tact. Patricia Scales
