About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Diane, It is very important for students to have a physical reminder of why they are in school and what they are working toward. A student will definitely lose all focus and interest if they don't see the relevance of why they are in school and what they are working toward. As educators, we must keep our students motivated and interested. Patricia
Hello Margaret, What a great idea! Students want to know that they do have a voice. I can see how this system can prove to be very effective. Patricia
Hi Margaret, Wow, you are appear to be extremely organized! Preparation is key. Keep preparing; you can never go wrong with great preparation. Patricia
Hello Debra, It is important to engage the student. It is also important for students to know that they are being instructed by a SME. Credibility is granted to the course as well as the institution if the student is being taught by a SME. Patricia
Hi Anthony, I do not let my students know about my prearreanged schedule or lesson plans, simply because they will definitely hold your feet to the fire, and they will panick on you if you were to get behind. Try this tactic, it will save you from a lot of headaches. Patricia
Hi Shui, Students want to know and truly appreciate the instructor sharing with them how the course is going to relate in a pratical setting. Students are always wanting to know why I have to take this course. Generally, if a student understands how he or she will benefit from the course, the student becomes interested in the course. Patricia
Hi Anthony, What a great way to get your students very interested. When do the students begin using the tools? Patricia
Hi Troy, Being an effective listener is very important as an educator. We must make our ears available to all students. Patricia
Hi Shui, You are right, there are some terms that must be broken down for the students. Some terms can be intimidating, and we want the first day to be as less intimidating as possible. Patricia
Hi David, I've come in contact with young and older sudents who think they know more than the teacher. The teacher has to immediately and tactfully let the students know that they have a ton of knowledge in the subject matter. Most of the time having a talk with the students will change things for the better. Patricia
