About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Steven, Students want to know how a particular concept is going to help them in their chosen field of study once they begin employment. Students are generally very interested whenever you talk about on the job performance. Patricia
Hi Billy, Students appreciate the heads up. I've had students to thank me for various heads up. We must continue to put our students first by providing heads up. Patricia
Hi Isaac, It sounds like you are very organized! As educators, we must develop systems that will make our lives easier. Teaching is a big handful. Patricia
Hello Isaac, You're right! I handle the challenging students just as you do. It is amazing what istening to the student and having a private conversation will do to make things better with the challenging student. Patricia
Hi Isaac, I understand! It is very frustrating when you have students who do not pay attention. Not paying attention is very detrimental to a student's success. I generally have a good firm talk privately with the student. The talk normally takes care of things. Patricia
Hello Steven, I personally do not encourage putting things up for class discussion. As you have said, you are the authoritative figure, and you call the shots, however you will listen to your students if there is a need and find a solution to their problem. Patricia
Hi Steven, I've never heard of the Six P's. The phrase does make sense. Preparation is key. Patricia
Hi Earl, You're right, student need to know on Day 1 all of the course requirements. Also having a visual for students to see is always interesting and exciting. Students enjoy visual aid. Patricia
Hi Diane, Super repsonse! I can tell you put thought into how to best deal with challenging students. You are right on target with your answer. It is so much easier to deal with a challenging student once they've clamed down. Patricia
Hi Alan, It is important for students to know the relevance of the course. Student MUST understand how the course is going to help them in their field of study once they graduate. Patricia
