About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hello Stacey, Never let the students have control. On the very first day you make a presence, you want to be nice, but firm. Students should always know you are the authoritative figure. Don't let students run the class nor you, you run both! Patricia
Hi Stacey, How have your class discussions gone? Have you ever had a class discussion where things got out of control, and if so how did you regain control? Class discussions are great such as these as long as the instructor can maintain full control. Patricia
Hi Stacey, I teach a Career Development course as well, and it is the most exciting and interesting course to my students! They absolutely love it, and I love teaching it. We have a great time, and they learn an abundance of information. Patricia
Hi Diana, When students can visualize their succes, you are right what a great sense of excitement and interest. I went back to me visualizing myself one day as a teacher, the visualization was a great motivator. Patricia
Hi Meredith, It is good to put the responsibility back on the student. After all they should have in mind what it is they want to accomplish from the course. Patricia
Hi Steven, As educators, we must be effective listeners! Sometimes students simply need to vent, and we must be there to hear them out. Once the student has vented, the student generally feels better. Patricia
Hi Walter, As educators, sometimes we have to dig really deep to find out what the real cause is due to the lack of focus. When the cause is discovered immediate action should be taken to resolve things. Patricia
Hi Andrew, Just as we are educators, we must be real good entertainers too. What a perfect mixture, having fun while learning. Patricia
Hi Mary, Students are always excited to hear about your personal experiences. Students want to know what goes on in the real world. Patricia
Hello Laura, What a nice little personal tactic. Students love it whenever they know they have a voice. Patricia
