About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Abigail, Students certainly appreciate an open door policy. Students want to be able to enter your office comfortably. Keep the approachable line open. Patricia
Hi Elizabeth, How exciting to have a real life example for each objective. I can see how students will get excited from this on the first day. Patricia
Hello Elizabeth, There are some college students who do not have a sense of responsbility. Everything had always been done for them. I have a real adult conversation with these students. Patricia
Hello Elizabeth, How do you go about using class discussions to figure out solutions? Patricia
Hi Elizabeth, It is important to let the students know what the lesson of the day will consist of. Students like knowing the lesson plan. Patricia
Hi Andrew, Some students simply do not care and simply do not want to be there. It is sad but true. Continue to not give up on the student. Try talking to the student about what you have noticed to see if this makes a difference. Patricia
Hi Tiffany, Rubrics are great. It is like you pretty much know your grade before hand. Whenever rubrics are used, students clearly see what they did not do that caused them to lose points. Patricia
Hi Jerry, When you speak about money most students will listen. I like your good attitude and your happy face on Day 1, and I am sure you maintain these things throughout. A good attitude and a happy face are considered to be a trickle down effect to students. Patricia
Hi Sara, You've mentioned some great pointers. These things certainly minimize complaints. The fewer complaints, the better. Patricia
Hi Christina, You immediately let your students know they are no special favors granted nor or grades/answers given. You get what you've earned. Patricia
