We can incorporate our own personal practices and experiences into our instruction. For me, running taught me discipline habit at a young age. It also demonstrated to me that tremendous progress is possible with a small daily habit. This lesson supported the importance that sharing these kinds of experiences can have on education.

We can incorporate out intuition into how we guide and assist students throughout a course. This in tandem with more traditional teaching approaches might be more effective than one or the other alone.

Care for a topic can be infectious. Sometimes students need to know that it is ok to feel a deep love for a topic. Demonstrating our own passion brings joy and helps create a stronger learning environment

Preparation / consideration can create a more calm environment for both the instructor and the students, which in turn is likely to lead to better student outcomes.

It is so helpful to recognize that all students will have some kind of ratio of extrinsic / intrinsic motivation. Finding approaches to uniquely support each student in these regards is a strong approach to guiding students towards success.

I have not considered the insecurities involved in adult learning. The baggage from childhood academic performance, the sense of what you owe to those you are responsible to as an adult. This was very informative.

Adult learners have the benefit of autonomously coming to their education. This is quite different from the mindset that children bring to their education, and this is an important distinction to keep in mind when teaching adults. There is also a major benefit here for educators.
