Activity

This module taught me a lot about how to effectively use storytelling. The framing and what to include in a story was helpful to provide structure and keep me on track when using stories. I will apply storytelling to my upcoming work using the guidance from the module.

As a gamer, I was able to understand the learning well, but something new for me was the specific ways to make games and simulations effective. I plan to apply what I learned by testing out a current e-learning's effectiveness after remaking it into a gamified experience.

The concept of a flipped classroom is new to me, so I learned a lot! Some key things that stuck out to me were creating ownership within learners and the types of activities to focus on for both the F2F and lecture portions of the learning engagement. I plan to apply what I learned by experimenting with the flipped classroom concept in my own course next term.

I naturally use humor in my communication, so I was interested particularly in how to effectively use humor in storytelling. I learned how humor can make difficult topics more accessible and increase knowledge retention, which was something I had not thought about before! It makes sense related to andragogy and I plan to apply it by intentionally planning story moments during upcoming difficult topics in the course I am teaching and by asking students to share their stories.
