I’ve found that students do better when they feel comfortable asking for help and can see how a lesson connects to real life. I share stories from my own work, encourage them to keep trying, and check in when they seem stuck. It can be challenging to support everyone in different ways, but small conversations and steady encouragement make a difference. I’ve found that students are more likely to stay when they feel supported, connected, and able to see their progress.

I’ve learned that I can support student retention by building trust, connecting lessons to students’ goals, and sharing examples from my own work experiences. When I explain how I used a skill on the job—and what I learned from challenges—students can better see how classroom learning applies to real careers. That personal connection can help students feel encouraged, engaged, and ready to keep learning.
