Active learning is a great way to allow students to stay engaged and think positively about learning.  It can help them retain the information better.

Visual learning helps by showing the meaning of the words they are learning or trying to retrain.  May be a bit time consuming but with the right goals set , it could be a fun way to learn terminology. 

Engaging with the students and being able to teach at their level of understanding and that repetition is key.  I like most am a visual learner, so maybe showing diagrams and using tools to help remember by showing and repetition can help students when a lecture can seem tedious.
