If the student is overwhelmed with stressors, they are more likely to quit. Staff must pay attention to the signs of distress and offer solutions to keep the student engage. This will more than likely deter them from quitting. Staff should not lead a student to believe we do not care about their future.

I learned that keeping the students engaged while learning can help to keep retention low. Being able to recognize if the students are disengaged before it becomes to late can help to increase retention. It is important to remember that maintaining retention is a collective effort amongst the entire staff from start to finish in retaining the students. This information gave me great tools to use and think about while teaching my students and keeping them looking forward to a rewarding career in the end.

1. Moving around the room keeping the students engaged.

2. Managing my tone of voice when speaking and keeping eye contact.

3. Keeping the topics that I am trying to make with the lectures to keep the students asking questions.
