From this module, I learned that student motivation increases when learners see the relevance of course content, receive encouragement, and experience achievable success. I also learned that an instructor’s own passion and enthusiasm for teaching can have a powerful impact on student motivation. Keeping students actively engaged through enthusiasm and a variety of instructional methods can create a safe and positive learning environment while maintaining their interest. This approach not only facilitates learning for all students but also encourages greater interaction, participation, and overall satisfaction with the course.

Establishing clear expectations from the beginning and ensuring that students’ social and learning needs are met can greatly improve retention, particularly among students with lower motivation. At the same time, knowing the subject matter well and having confidence in your ability to teach it creates a comfortable environment where students can learn, have fun, communicate openly, and work together as a team.

I really liked the advice to view the lab space through the eyes of the student. I have been trying to incorporate more elements that make students feel welcome and comfortable while also working to modernize the space so they feel they are receiving the best possible learning experience. At the same time, treating the classroom and laboratory as a simulated worksite, where students are expected to follow real-world standards and requirements, can help them develop the discipline, professionalism, and work habits they will need for positive career growth.

Student learning experiences need to be evaluated to ensure that a variety of approaches are used to address a variety of student learning styles. This will impact course design and student assessment.

Balancing formative and summative assessments in your course provides both your students and you with information about the learning that is occurring.

Students create good learning scaffolding by building on prior knowledge and experiences, by taking cues from instruction on where to focus learning energy, and by depending on a good course framework to guide them through the course.

I learned that having a well-organized syllabus with modules of equal length greatly helps students navigate an online course more easily and successfully. When the course is structured consistently, students can manage their time effectively, anticipate workload, and focus on learning rather than trying to figure out the organization of the material. This clarity not only supports student engagement but also promotes a smoother progression through the course content, leading to better overall outcomes.

With e-learning, the instructor needs to make sure that he/she can't cover everything, and students need to understand their responsibilities well from the beginning of the course not to rely on heavily on the instructor.
