Hi Gary - You bring up an important topic. As teachers we need to help our students to take responsibility for their own learning and that means, as you point out, teaching them to be "active learners". If we do our job well they will become "lifetime learners" which I believe is our goal.
Hi Cynthia - Welcome to ED 103! I like your very reassuring way of posting questions. Students hate to be wrong and your technique certainly takes the pressure off - well done!

Hi Sherie - Welcome to ED 103! You make a good point - often we will never fully know the impact of our teaching, but it is realizing both the obligation and the opportunity that we have to make differences in our students lives that makes our jobs so worthwhile.

You are using a great combination of assessmsnts especially for the discipline that you teach Valerie. Do you also assign projects for your students?

Hi Brian - I agree it's a good idea to start with testing that may not be as challenging to give your stuudents some confidence in their ability. Then you move to more comprehensive assessments.
Hi Gary - Even the shyest students find it hard to resist an animated discusion - excellent, Gary!
