Common reasons for conflict in an online learning environment are ineffective communication, personality differences, differences in personal values, differences in personal goals, failure to fulfill commitments, and shirking roles and responsibilities. I will consult my institutional policy and procedure guidelines when seeking to resolve conflict.

I learned that in asynchronous discussions, responses are often written and not verbal, so students are more likely to be more detailed in completing their responses. Also, an asynchronous forum is preferred when imparting critical information. Several advantages of asynchronous discussions are promotes reflection, critical thinking, and more student involvement, including introverted students and international students. I intend to include asynchronous discussion boards, involving small groups of students, in my classroom instruction.

I learned an effective way of projecting your presence and expertise in the online classroom is to write a brief biography of yourself. The biography should include educational credentials, achievements, and professional experience. I intend to have my biography prepared and posted, along with a welcome message, by the first day of the course.

I learned that it takes more than just knowledge of the subject area to deliver quality course content. I intend to familiarize myself with various course delivery strategies. I plan to interact with colleagues on the job and other professional peers to improve and update course delivery techniques and strategies. Today, I learned from a colleague of a Website for an interactive game that is new to me.
