About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Theresa, Good plan for the flow of your course. You are offering your students variety and change of pace both of which helps to keep them engaged. What have you found to be the most effective learning strategy that you use? Gary

Hi David, As life long learners we have to keep up with our field and the developments in learning so we offer our students our best. This is what professional development is all about. Well said. Gary
Hi Denise, You are doing a great job of blending a number of different presentation styles into your hybrid course. This helps the students to see the different applications of their newly acquired knowledge. Gary

Hi Franz, Well said. Instructors impact lives and we have to remember that this impact can be positive or negative. It is up to us to make it positive due to our excitement and enthusiasm for our field. Gary
Hi Ted, Your instructional method enables the students to apply their newly acquired knowledge. This helps them to make applications and see relevancy. Gary
Hi Franz, You make a number of good points but I want to pull out is the fact you do not assign busy work. This is key when working with adults. They are there to prepare for a new career or advance in their present one. They want assignments that help them achieve their goals. Instructors need to work at selecting assignments and activities that help students in such a way. Gary
Hi Todd, Sometimes it is just a little personal attention that makes a student feel special or that their talent is being recognized and they are good to go. Gary
Hi Jean-rene, I like your approach of listening to the students as well. This is critical to keeping them in the course but if they do leave school they know someone is there that is willing to listen and support them should they come back. This has been an important connection that many students reflect on and use when they do decide to come back to school. Gary
Hi Jean-rene, Good strategies for keeping your students focused on your class and not what is going on in the halls outside of the room. Gary
Hi Solita, The sharing of the certifications that are available is good because it helps the students to see what they must work toward plus that the goals you have for the course are there because of the standards of the industry. This helps to make it "real". Gary
