About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Brian, Well put. I really like your last sentence. I think it sums everything up very well. As a teacher you now have even more respect for those teachers you have had in your past. I know I do because teaching is not easy but it is rewarding in the opportunities we get to impact the lives of our students. Gary
Hi Kevin, These activities help to keep the interest of the students as well as engaging them in applying the content that has been covered in the lecture. Gary
Hi Brenda, Thank you for sharing your professional development strategy. Your plan enables you to stay current in your field while expanding your skills as an educator. This is a win win situation for your students and yourself. Gary
Hi Jim, Good point and so true. The more you try to expand your abilities the more "tools" you will have available to you and your students. This increases the opportunities your students to learn new knowledge and skills. Gary
Hi Laticia, Love your excitement about your field and that fact that you get to teach it. Excitement is catching which to me is the strong point of teaching. What other career will let you spend time in your career area while getting to teach the next generation of career professionals. Gary
Hi Daniel, Good way to offer different learning opportunities to and for your students. Students like competition and enjoy having the chance to show off what they know. Gary
Hi Dawn, This is the difference between just being a student and being a career minded expansive learner. Gary
Discussion Comment
Hi Trisha, Good way to continually expand your professional expertise. This is a way to help students become effective and efficient learners while you are developing professionally. Gary
Hi Trisha, Good point and well explained. In addition, to needing to reflect on the different learning preferences in the class instructors also need to be aware of the class dynamics and how to relate to each student. Gary
Hi Holly, I like your method of planning. This is how I set up my classes as well. I always have a back up plan that will let me go another direction if I need to. The fun part of teaching is that it is never boring and sometimes it is hard to figure where we are going to end up once we start class. We always stay focused on our goals and objectives but there are a host of ways to get there. Gary
