About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Willis, I can't imagine it either because after all these years teaching about my field is still a thrill. I get to share with others and get paid to do it, how great is that? Gary
Hi Willis, The "life long learner" idea that you are sharing with your students is a good one. Students sometimes forget that once they graduate learning has only just started for them. If we/they are to be successful in any career learning must be a constant. Gary
Hi Richard, I like your stance. Setting and maintaining high standards results in increase understanding by students of the importance your attach to excellence and effort. This is what is going to help them when they enter their careers. Gary
Hi Galen, Good point about respect. That is what being an instructor is all about. Earning the respect of students will result in enhanced learning and stronger engagement within the class. Gary
Hi Byron, Right you are. What are some of the techniques that you use to reinforce your students and help them feel they can have success in the class. Gary
Hi Daniel, Good approach. This knowledge acquisition process keeps building on the foundation that you are creating with your students. This helps the students get settled into the course and realize that they can have success if they will put forth the effort. Gary
Hi Daniel, Spoken by a veteran instructor. You are right about needing to approach the students from several different ways to you can target the different learning preferences. Gary
Hi Nathaniel, What are some of the methods you use to get to know your students better? Gary
Hi Rachel, Being a professional really sets up the students for seeing how a model from the career area should conduct themselves. Gary
Hi Christopher, The use of stories and examples really help to drive home the content that you are sharing with them. Also, as you mention it keeps the motivation level high. Gary
