About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Jane, Good strategy. By allowing students to use their own life experiences to build a connection between the course content you are helping them to build strong memory connections. When those experiences aren't there you are giving them episodes upon which they can build so their memories can be enhanced. It is a win win for everyone. Gary

To take away from that is unfair to the career and to the students. It is ok to have fun and make learning enjoyable but it must be done in a manner that always reflects professionalism. Gary

Instructors as Role Models

Hi Kristen, I can understand your and your fellow worker' frustration with your boss. I am compulsive when it comes to being on time and returning emails/phone calls so when I work with someone that doesn't respond or is always late I get cranked up. That being said when I deal with instructors that operate that way I really get cranked up because they are saying that the time of their students is not valuable.
