Regardless of the subject area, focusing on learning effective communication skills boosts productivity by coordinating efforts to deliver a product, contributes to career development and advancement through reduced risk, higher efficiency, and increased workplace engagement. The ability to articulate a problem, the capacity to resolve issues through critical thinking, good decision-making, good listening, adaptability, and communication enables skilled trade workers to succeed in their fields and become sought-after professionals in the job market.

I learned that contextual learning offers a broader context in which students can acquire vocational skills. I also learned that integrated learning enriches the student experience by focusing on areas where relevant content and practical knowledge become part of the learning process. Problem solving and critical thinking skills are important, particularly for skilled trade students, as these skills are among the most sought-after qualities. While online learning offers opportunities to gain new learning experiences and access digital tools and resources to support the process, apprenticeship training provides the chance to gain experience under real-life conditions and within the actual work… >>>

While practical skills are of vital importance, in the world of skilled trades, artificial intelligence (AI), and virtual reality (VR) are integral elements in expanding job opportunities in the current market. Online learning environments are an excellent way to support this type of learning. Instead of reading passively, students have the opportunity to learn by doing; this fosters practical thinking and problem-solving skills—abilities that are highly valued in many professional work environments.

From this module, I learned about important career, reasoning, and discussion skills that instructors can—or should—incorporate when designing online course structures. These are skills that students can utilize to advance their future careers, particularly when they need to present significant projects or engage in discussions about them. These are excellent opportunities for students to develop themselves, whether they are still in school or already in the workforce.

In online courses, the importance of instructional system design is undeniable. From this module, I learned that there are specific instructional design stages—determined by the selection of an appropriate design and development methodology—that dictate the success of online learning program. The use of media strategies is another crucial element that fosters student engagement with the course content. The final stage is student assessment; this process can be carried out through peer assessment or by instructors using detailed rubrics that outline how students will be evaluated.

From this module, I learned that the fundamental components of the course are: the selection of appropriate technology, particularly for asynchronous or online classes; the course syllabus and content, which form the backbone of student learning and provide a roadmap to follow; lectures and assignments designed to inform students and track their progress;discussion and chat forums that keep students updated on current developments; and finally, the assessment methods and strategies used to evaluate student performance.

Learning activities offer students opportunities in many respects to make the most of what they have just learned.Assignments, discussions, and email are excellent tools for online students, as they ensure continuous interaction between students and the instructor. Assigning reading pieces, posting questions, and organizing synchronous and asynchronous discussions—including by inviting guest speakers—are excellent ways to ensure that online learners continuously track their learning processes. I like the idea of inviting guest speakers and assigning questions that students can answer in various ways.

The quality and characteristics of online courses depend entirely on how the instructor designs and develops them. If instructors create a learner-centered environment characterized by ease of navigation and structural integrity—factors crucial not only for students' intellectual interaction and multisensory learning experiences but also for their development and enhanced information retention—they can keep students' interest alive. I really love the idea of virtual field trips and enabling students to contribute to the lesson.

I learned that critical thinking skills can benefit students' overall learning and help them become better thinkers. Instructors can support students by helping them develop critical thinking skills, which in turn enables them to become better problem solvers and enter their career paths equipped with the necessary skills. Instead of asking for simple answers, I plan to give assignments that require much deeper thinking.

I learned that transforming traditional classroom activities begins with a shift in teacher attitudes that involves guiding students while enabling them to develop their creativity and continues with a transition to student-centered learning that allows students to take ownership of the information. Using active learning tools is a key element that an instructor can effectively use to encourage active learning. Rubrics in assignments help students understand expectations and ensure their learning is graded appropriately. Students can also use rubrics to evaluate their ability to successfully complete assignments. I will try to use rubrics in assignments more frequently.
