About me

In my current role as Student Success Programming Coordinator, I coordinate the Work-based learning initiative at Gateway Technical College.  I will be working in conjunction with the Project Manager to create a work-based learning intermediary that will be shared across the college as a standard and expectation.  I am excited to be creating an impactful program from the ground up.  I'm looking forward to learning from fellow colleagues across the nation.

I liked separating the business orientaiton from the supervisor orientation. However, I also think that would be burdensome on the employer?  Any thoughts on that?

We are absolutely from nothing in terms of providing a standard of WBL at our college.  The plans and assessments here will provide a strong starting point for us as we determine what we want to understand about the student WBL experience, how we're doing as a college, and how our employers are doing -- all of this leads back to retention & graduation as a huge factor of success too.

WBL Coordinator definitely has multiple hats with multiple moving parts.  With this knowledge, I will definitely be able to apply it to the WBL committee who will assist us in developing many of these provided considerations.  This is especially important as it relates to the public reltaions/communications which is often overlooked because it doesn't always provide direct services.  However, it is important to set the precedence of our WBL program within the community.

This part of the course includes all of the major individuals and components to make the WBL program a successful framework, standard, and experience for all of those involved.  In addition, I appreciate the discussion about considering legislation and research which we can be rarely discussed at the programming level of higher education.

I appreciated the layout of the course to differentiate among the various WBL opportunities.  I plan on using this information for training our WBL committee on the differences and to help to set a clear definition & expectation of knowledge as well.  The ready to view resources were also very helpful in brainstorming and creating ideas for the WBL forms for the various experiences.  I will definitely be using this as examples as we create our WBL program/intermediary site.
