Power points are there to guide you through the class but don't read from them, address the class as a whole at the end of a given problem to solve or lab session for positive accomplishments and negative mistakes students might have done.

Introduction, going over the syllabus and course content, be clear about class expectations, goals and objectives.

I learned that students may lose track of the topic if you don't ask them questions and incorporate real-life examples about the topic.

Early planning and being prepared make students value you as their teacher and help them being suuccessful in their education.
