We do not let phones out at all during each period which last 2 hours. Some students can not deal with it and they try and sneak a check. We have to give out infractions to get them to stop. We need to come to some kind of an understanding on this issue. The phones are part of everyone's life now.

We all need to be role models, but we need to do it in a way that the students stay engaged. There is nothing wrong with being a role model, but also be fun and exciting at the same time.

Eye contact, but just for that period of time, taking a few seconds to pause and make it. Very interesting
I have always felt it a good idea to share life experiences in the classroom. Just be careful, don't go too far.

I love the idea of groups, but how do you know that you have them separated correctly. The right mix in each.
