ED106

I just completed ED106 and I must say it was a very good course in helping to understand how to approach students with learning diabilities. These students can be the most frustrating to deal with regularly because I know they WANT to understand and learn but they have major obsticles in their way to success. They are frustrated and in my wanting to help them, I get frustrated, with myself more than anything. My frustrations come from my desire to help them and finding the solution to getting them to where they need to be, which is not always easy. This course gave me very useful insights and tips which I will happiy employ.

I completed mine on Saturday and just like you it really opened me to different methods and approach to teaching. Truly somtimes we feel frustrated in dealing with the students but like we learned in the course, we hve to find different ways and methods in getting to them. Anyway, I really enjoyed the course too.

I remember years ago a particular student that had trouble learning.  English was his second language, but I believe that he had some other disability and that was why he had some difficulty learning.  What I did was give him some of my personal time and although it may have helped, but that time could've been spent more effectively had I simply asked that student what specifically they might've needed.  That's one of the things I learned from ED106--just ask, "How can I help you to understand this better?  What has worked for you in the past?"  Thanks.

I run into alot of students that have learning issues. Once they grab hold of the main concept they usually can run with it, its just getting to that point. Sometimes they even retain it better. It just takes  more time to get them to that point. This has taught me some new guide lines and new tips and has also given me an better understanding.
