A simple smile and hello mean a lot to students.  Instructors can be friendly to students.  Students love being greeted warmly and genuinely!

Very much agreed.  In my experience as an instructor and administrator, I've found that openly expressing my concern for students has sometimes made all the difference for them.  I think sometimes a complement ("you did really well on this homework assignment!") or expressed empathy ("you look kind of down today, is everything all right?") really helps us connect to why we value our place in education.

Absolutely!  Instructors can be seen in two ways by students - the first is the one who holds the grade in balance and the person that  the student must impress to succeed.  The second can be as an intimidating presence who has more knowledge in the subject.  A smile, genuine concern, and an openness to conversation can go a long way to breaking down any barriers.

it makes a difference if the instructor has a passion for students.  This passion enables the student to conform to whatever the instructor has to offer. The students feel as if the instructor is caring.

Yes, I totally agree with you, a simple good morning goes a long way. I actually greet my students at the door every morning with a hello and a smile. :)

"A smile, genuine concern, and an openness to conversation can go a long way to breaking down any barriers."  Yes, I agree with James.  As instructors we need to show our true passion and concern, that we want our students to reach their goals. The students need to know that is our focus.
