classroom management

be more conscientious with stating course objectives and required deadlines. students need to know expectations.

The instructor should give clear and concise syllabi.  Also there should be a  date when assignments are due when they are assigned.  Students should definitely know what the expectations are in the class.  What the students can expect from you and also waht you extpect from them.

I always have an asterisk with a note that the syllabus is liable to changes based on class needs. It gives a little loop hole if something unexpected happens.

I like to highlight some of the more importants areas of the syllabi upfront so everyone is on the same plane of understanding. Not undermining other points on outline though!

I agree; students need to know what the expectations are up front.  We are at a risk of students not meeting expectations if they are not aware of what is expected of them.

I agree that that establishing clear expectations and that treating students with respect will improve classroom management.

Provide clearly stated objectives for the day that is written on the board and verbalized. Then sticking to a highly structured course I think gives a big advantage both for the instructor and the students. It unknowingly allows the student to become excited for the course since they know what is expected of them.

Write it down and make it plain for the student. This should be an area were we, as Instructors, should never come short. Keeping student on fire for learning especially when they know what lies ahead.

It is very important to not only write the information on the board but to also include it in the syllabus so they will know when assignments are due. One of the great things are the students calendars and journals in which they can keep up with important activities and assignments.
