I’ve found that modeling myself as an effective listener and compassionate advisor has made a real difference in how my students respond to me. Many of them are more receptive when they feel truly heard and understood, so I focus on building that trust through empathy and active listening. I’ve also learned that no single coaching style fits every student. Each one has their own personality, background, and pace, so I try to adapt my approach to meet their individual needs. Whether it’s offering encouragement, helping them set goals, or simply giving them space to express frustration, being flexible and supportive helps create stronger, more productive relationships.
