A student's right to opt out of directory information is persistent. This will continue to apply until the student actively chooses to rescind their request. This means even if the student graduates or withdraws from the institution, their opt-out preference remains valid unless they inform the school otherwise. Although FERPA rights continue after a student is no longer enrolled, they do end upon the death of a student.
